Do you like to host gatherings at your house? Let me tell you how I am using my dining room and my love for hosting for the Kingdom of God.

I enjoy hosting events. Whether it is a family gathering, a ladies event, a youth night; whatever it may be, I have always enjoyed having people in my home. And I believe some of that is just the southern way. We southerners love to get together and eat!

One day, I felt a nudging. I was cleaning and praying, something that I do often, and I felt the Lord impress something upon me. Right then, I knew that He had a purpose for that big dining room that we have.

Let me give you a little backstory:

3 years ago, my husband and I bought a new home in the little town that we live in. We had been talking off and on for a few years about buying and one day we decided it was time to seriously begin looking.

If you’ve ever been house hunting, then you know the struggles of finding what you have in mind and also have two opinions on top of that!

Well, we were told about a particular house one day and we drove by it. I immediately said, “No”. The houses were too close, there were too many pine trees in the yard, the color of the house was not what I wanted. There were so many things that I didn’t like that I almost called our Realtor to let her know not to waste her time.

My sweet and calm husband told me to just give it a chance and we could still look at it. Lo and behold, that is the house that we bought! It was everything on the inside that we were looking for.

One particular room stood out to me, though. It was the dining room. That dining room is very large and I’ve often told my husband that I believed we had it for a reason. Of course, I wanted a large dining room, but I didn’t need one unnecessarily large.

But…God had other plans. I have enjoyed that particular room. I’ve been able to host different events and have enjoyed every minute of it.

The Details of a Bible Study

And when the Lord told me that He wanted me to host Bible Study luncheons in my home, I wasn’t surprised. But I was nervous. How should I go about it? What would I say? Who was this Bible Study targeted for?

I prayed and talked with my Pastor’s wife about what God had laid on my heart to do. She also had been feeling led to do the same but wasn’t sure where to host it! God had it all under control.

So we figured out the details, created a schedule, and went to work in the Kingdom of God focusing on working moms!

I’d like to share with you the ways that we host a Bible Study Luncheon so that YOU can help others and be used in the Kingdom of God.

Ways to Host a Bible Study Luncheon

  • Come up with a name so that women immediately recognize when you share on social media the date and time.
  • Pick a day of the month that you can host it and keep that same day every month. Example: We host our luncheons on the 4th Tuesday of every month.
  • We knew we were targeting busy working mothers that would not be able to spare an evening. So we host the luncheon from 12pm-1pm on that day.
  • We serve light lunches that are delicious but easy. Example: Chicken salad on croissant, potato chips, sweet tea, and dessert.
  • I ask other ladies from our church who do not work to help with preparing lunches each month. I have a menu of what is needed for that month and they are always happy to help.
  • We have plates prepared ahead of time so that there is no waiting around. Ladies can come in and begin eating and visiting right away.
  • We give something to the ladies when they leave as a reminder of God’s love and as a “thank-you” for attending. Example: Small compact mirror with a Bible verse. Lip balm with encouraging words.
  • We have a short, encouraging devotional. Something that we know will impact a busy mom and give them strength for the week. (You can ask your Pastor’s Wife or someone you trust to help conduct the devotional each week if you would like to rotate.)

Here is a timeline of how we conduct the Bible Study once ladies arrive:

  • Allow time between 12-12:15 for people to arrive.
  • Ladies get their plate and take a seat. Around 12:15 welcome everyone and take prayer request from the ladies that have arrived. Pray over the food and the prayer request.
  • After the prayer, you can begin your devotional. Only take about 15 minutes for the devotional. You want something quick, easy to digest, and uplifting!
  • Continue to eat and serve dessert to your guests and enjoy being together with friends.
  • Many will begin leaving around 12:50. Once they begin to leave, hand out a small gift as a reminder of their time at the luncheon that day.

The main objective of this Bible Study Luncheon is to allow busy mothers to breathe and be able to focus on God’s presence. It’s a great time for fellowship and getting to know others in the community.

Focus on prayer and pampering your guest during this time.

This Bible Study Luncheon encourages me as much as it encourages the ladies that come. So you see, God has a plan for us all if we will just walk in His ways. I am thankful that He impressed upon me to begin this Bible Study, I have a good excuse to use that big dining room and my love for hosting!

  1. I am not a mom but I find this so helpful! I am a busy wife who work 9-5 in an office and I try to create meaningful content for my blog AND my husband works for our Church so we are always looking for ideas to make time for people in our lives and encourage them to read the Word of God. Thank you for sharing!
