A Mother’s Persistent Prayer

A Mother’s persistent prayer for her children is her highest duty and privilege.

What does mothering consist of?

  • Cook
  • Housekeeper
  • Teacher
  • Nurse
  • Laundry Keeper
  • Potty training
  • Personal Shopper
  • Nutrition Provider
  • And so much more!

But more than all of those wonderful things that we have the privilege of doing to ensure our child is physically taken care of, we must know we have a higher calling. We have a higher duty, a higher privilege.

In the book of Matthew (chapter 15), we find a mother whose daughter was in a mighty need of a miracle. So she went to the One she knew could heal her daughter.

She cried to the Lord and He did not even speak to her. His disciples urged him to send her away.

Still, she cried even more. She was persistent in her need.

When Jesus finally spoke to her he told her something she didn’t want to hear. He let her know that he wasn’t in the city to heal, he was there to reach the lost.

She knelt before him and begged for help, and he basically called her a dog. Yet, she continued on. She wasn’t going to let this go. She had a need and she needed Jesus to fulfill it at that moment.

Jesus Rewards Faith

Because of her persistence, Jesus rewarded her faith and healed her daughter! He tested her faith and she stayed strong. She was not deterred by what the circumstance looked like.

Being a Gentile woman, she knew what other people thought about her. She heard their whispers and saw their looks, but that did not stop her from having the faith and believing that God would do what she needed in that hour.

We have the high privilege of covering our child in prayer. It is of the utmost importance in knowing that through prayer, we, as mother’s, can ask God to send a host of angels to stand guard over our children. What an honor and a privilege it is to be used in such a way.

Being persistent means continuing firmly or obstinately in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. It means continuing to pray when it seems as though no answer were in sight. It means taking a firm stance on what you believe.

Called and Challenged

We pray, we intercede, we are diligent, we do not take no for an answer, we stand strong for our child’s sake, we are warriors. A mother’s persistent prayer is what keeps her family afloat during all season’s of life. It’s what we are called and challenged to do.

In Colossians 4:2 (CSB), Paul encourages us in saying, “Devote yourselves in prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving.”

Proverbs 14:1 (CSB) says “Every wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands.” Women who can be called wise are those who focus their energies on shaping their households in conformity with God’s purposes. She causes her house to thrive, she fears the Lord and has the foundation for wisdom.

You, dear lady, are a Cook, Housekeeper, Teacher, Nurse, Laundry keeper, Potty trainer, Personal Shopper, Nutrition Provider, but most importantly, you are a Praying Mother!
