Husband | A Season of Thanks

Thankful for My Husband

I asked my amazing community on my Facebook Page what they were most thankful for. The one thing they kept saying was how thankful they are for their husbands.

I have to agree. I am thankful for my husband!

A husband is that one person that we can fall apart in front of and they just get us.

Husbands have a powerful role in marriage. They know how to make a woman feel like a queen, how to feel protected and loved, and safe.

Respect For Your Husband

Hebrews 13:4 CSB “Marriage is to be honored by all…”

The book of Hebrews says it best “A marriage is to be honored”. Honor means to have high respect or great esteem.

And I must say that this is where a great marriage begins.

Wouldn’t you agree that men aren’t perfect? Yeah, neither are we. That’s what is so beautiful about it.

But when we respect our husbands the imperfection fades into the background and love for that imperfect man exudes to the forefront.

Proverbs 19:14 “A house and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.”

*Excerpt from CSB commentary: Prudent – have insight, act circumspectly, behave wisely; make prosperous. The more sensible wife is able to help her husband think through situations in order to choose a wise course of action. Although wealth may be provided by earthly parents, God alone deserves the credit for providing a wise wife.*

This is where being the wife of his dreams comes in. When you love and respect your husband he can’t help but give that love and respect back.

Ecclesiastes 4:9: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?”

A Godly and loving husband is a great blessing from God.

How beautiful it is to know that when you fall, he is there to help you get back up. He is there to be a shoulder to lean on when everything else seems to be falling apart.

I tell my husband often “I feel so safe and protected in your arms.” God put that desire in every man to be the protector and overseer of his wife.

Bible Verses About Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

Ephesians 4:2: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

Romans 12:10: Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

Above all, a woman is forever thankful for the love of a husband.

How much better off we would all be if we would put our names in place of the word “love” mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13:4-5.

Love is beautiful when we put our own needs aside and see to the needs of our husband.

If respect is the beginning of all good marriages, I would dare to say that love is the center of a great one. To stay humble and patient and to be devoted and honor one another above ourselves is just how God intends a marriage to be.

There are so many things to be thankful for but having a loving husband to live this life with is one of God’s greatest blessings.

Love, respect, honor, and devotion are what make a marriage amazing and worth it all.

  1. When I learned not to try and “wear the pants” in this relationship and let him have his rightful place, plus show respect, marriage got much smoother. My husband works so hard for our family. I am thankful for him. He has grown so much in the last handful of hears in love, patience, and kindness too.

    • This is good advice, Amanda. I like how you said that you allowed your husband to have his rightful place.
If we could understand that life is much better when everyone is in their rightful place, life would be much easier!
Thank you for this insightful comment. I know others will benefit from this as well.
